Kannada Worksheets for Class 1

Free printable Kannada worksheets for Class 1 (Grade 1) — master the full alphabet, practise numbers, and start kagunita. For children in the 1st standard, aged 6–7.

What Kannada is expected in Class 1?

By Class 1, children are expected to read and write the full alphabet — all 15 swaragalu and 34 vyanjanagalu — fluently, recognise numbers, and begin kagunita (joining consonants with vowels) to read simple words.

Class 1 builds directly on UKG. Where UKG was about recognising letters, Class 1 is where those letters become fluent and start combining into syllables and words.

Start kagunita (ಕಾಗುಣಿತ)

Kagunita — combining each consonant with every vowel (ಕ ಕಾ ಕಿ ಕೀ …) — is the core new skill in Class 1. It is the bridge from single letters to reading whole words. Use the custom worksheet tool to make a tracing sheet for any kagunita row.

Class 1 practice tips

  • Use Medium font size — Class 1 hands are steadier than in UKG
  • Move from single letters to kagunita rows once letters are fluent
  • Practise reading short words aloud, not just tracing
  • Mix letters, kagunita, and numbers across the week to keep it varied
  • Celebrate writing their own name in Kannada — a great Class 1 milestone
